Anne Marie Stevens, 34, has been sentenced to an eight-month jail term after a collision in March 2023 in Northallerton that resulted in the death of 68-year-old Stephen Young. Mr. Young was crossing the road on his mobility scooter when he was struck by a Citroen C2 driven by Stevens. The sentencing, which took place at York Crown Court on Tuesday, included an eight-month prison term and a 15-month driving prohibition for Stevens. In a statement issued by Mr. Young’s family, his daughter expressed that her father’s passing “destroyed our lives” and “changed us forever”. The family’s statement further conveyed: “Dad wasn’t only just a husband a father a grandfather, brother, friend and uncle, he was a pillar of support – the foundation for our family and without him it has collapsed. “We are destroyed.”” According to North Yorkshire Police, Mr. Young was approximately halfway across Greenhowsyke Lane, having already navigated a mini roundabout, when Stevens’ vehicle collided with him. He received immediate treatment at the site of the incident before being transported to a hospital. Despite medical efforts, his condition worsened, leading to his subsequent death. The police force also stated that a specialist forensic collision investigator determined Mr. Young had correctly traversed the roundabout and was likely in the process of exiting the carriageway at the moment of impact. Stevens admitted guilt to the charge of causing death by careless driving. She is a mother of six children. PC Amy Herrick, from North Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Investigation Unit, commented that Stevens’ actions “have directly changed the lives of numerous people forever, and ultimately caused the death of Mr Young, which was entirely preventable”. She further emphasized: “Every driver holds a significant amount of responsibility when they take a motor vehicle onto our roads, and I would urge people not to become complacent, ensuring they always drive safely and to the rules of the road.”” Post navigation Man Apprehended on Suspicion of Explosives Possession Man sentenced to 18 years for rape and sexual assault of two women
