Kent is experiencing widespread disruption due to strong winds brought by Storm Bert. Train services have been affected, and organizers of various Christmas events are revising their schedules because of weather-related concerns. Southeastern railway operations, specifically those connecting Ramsgate to Canterbury and Dover, faced cancellations and delays on Saturday morning. This was a result of a fallen tree obstructing the tracks at Thanet Parkway. Concurrently, a Met Office wind warning became effective at 09:00 GMT on Saturday, covering the south-east England region. The Met Office indicated that the powerful winds from Storm Bert were anticipated to lead to “dangerous coastal conditions” and general disruption. By Saturday afternoon, the previously affected railway services had resumed normal operation. However, the planned Christmas lights switch-on ceremonies in both Folkestone and Deal on Saturday were called off due to the prevailing weather. Organizers of The Pantiles market stated that Sunday’s event is still scheduled to occur, though they committed to providing updates on their social media platforms should circumstances change. Furthermore, the festive fair slated for Sunday at Margate lifeboat station has been moved to 1 December. In Ashford, the Carnival of the Baubles is proceeding, albeit in a reduced capacity. The parade scheduled for 17:00 was cancelled, but indoor activities in County Square were still expected to take place. The weather warning for the county remains active until 21:00 on Sunday.
