Bowers Butchers, located in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, has achieved national recognition by winning an award for a sausage variety traditionally associated with a neighboring county. The establishment was honored with the prize for the finest Lincolnshire sausage during the 2024 UK Sausage Week competition held in London. James Middleton, 49, who co-manages the enterprise alongside his 81-year-old uncle, Richard Bowers, commented on the amicable competition between the two counties. He stated, “It’s always nice to get one up on the neighbours! You want to come out on top, don’t you?” Mr. Middleton attributed their achievement to extensive experience. He explained, “My grandad started this butcher’s business almost 100 years ago and he focused on being a sausage maker.” He further added, “So I think it’s the care and craftsmanship that goes into it as well as the right cut of meat and what kind of skin you use.” He specified their ingredients: “We use natural skins and shoulder of pork.” Bowers Butchers, situated in Gaywood, continues its specialization in sausages, offering approximately 20 different varieties concurrently. Beyond the award-winning Lincolnshire sausage—a pork sausage seasoned with sage—their selection encompasses options such as wild mushroom and thyme, roast garlic and parsley, and leek and mustard. A unique spiced pumpkin sausage is also being made available for Hallowe’en.
