Julen Lopetegui, manager of West Ham, addressed the media in advance of Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Brighton, scheduled for a 15:00 GMT kick-off. The following are the main points from his press conference. Lopetegui indicated that the squad for the upcoming match would largely resemble the one that played to a draw against Bournemouth on Monday. He did, however, mention a potential absence, stating that an unnamed player is doubtful: “Today we had a little problem with one player so we have to check and assist. [We’ll make a decision] tonight about if he is going to play or not.” Regarding Lucas Paqueta’s recent lack of starts, Lopetegui commented: “I think he showed he is ready despite not playing the last two matches. In current football, the bench players are of similar importance or more importance sometimes than those in the line-up. They can change one match and they are key. All of them have to understand this. Lucas has worked very hard and he is always ready to help us.” The manager expressed his belief that Niclas Fulkrug will become a crucial asset for West Ham. He explained: “Unfortunately for us and for him, he had one injury and has been out of the team for three months. After that, he is not able to start but to recover and be ready for the demands of the Premier League. I assure that he is going to be an important player for us. The team is going to need him.” Addressing Brighton and their head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, Lopetegui stated: “I think that he’s done very well despite his age. He’s showing that he’s ready for the demands the Premier League has. I think he’s a good person, good coach and [has] a good future They are a good team who have had a similar idea for the last years, with different coaches.” When questioned about the evolving landscape of football management, Lopetegui responded: “The managers who have come in are ready. Age isn’t important – it’s the same with players.” Post navigation Alan Shearer Criticizes Newcastle Players’ Attitude After Brentford Loss Kye Rowles, 26, Tipped for Enhanced Responsibility at Hearts
