Ahead of Aston Villa’s Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig in Germany, Morgan Rogers articulated his aspirations to achieve the status of an “established Premier League player” and to compete on the “biggest stages.” Only a year prior, the 22-year-old forward was part of Championship team Middlesbrough. However, following his transfer to Villa Park, he has since earned an England international cap and participated in Europe’s premier club tournament. Speaking to BBC Radio WM, Rogers stated: “It’s hard to put it into words because everything has happened so quickly. The next challenge has just kept falling at my lap.” He continued, expressing his current enjoyment: “I’m loving it. I’m enjoying it. It was my dreams and ambitions, as a kid, to play in the Premier League and Champions League. Enjoying these experiences along the way is vital and massive for me.” Rogers acknowledged the ongoing effort required: “I’ve obviously still got work to do. I’ve still got a long way to get to where I want to. I’m happy with the way I have progressed and where I have got to, but I just want to keep pushing and keep getting better. Hopefully I can do that with Villa.” He further elaborated on his goals: “I want to be an established Premier League player, which I don’t think I am yet. I want to be that consistent player in the national team. I want to play on the biggest stages and be considered as one of the best players in those competitions.” Rogers clarified his perspective on his current status: “I don’t think I’ve played enough games yet to consider myself as an established player. I need more consistency in my games and more games under my belt, in terms of taking that next step and cementing my Premier League status.” He concluded by contrasting his past and present experiences: “I thought the Championship was hard – this is a whole new level.”
