A family has been eliciting both smiles and raised eyebrows within their village due to a remarkably unconventional Halloween pumpkin display. Beyond crafting traditional gap-toothed ghouls, the King Elliot family, from Walsoken, Norfolk, has ingeniously combined three gourds, two apples, and several carrots to create “pregnant” pumpkins that appear to be in the process of giving birth. These so-called “birthing” pumpkins, which are designed to look as though they are producing baby gourds, have generated considerable online buzz, with one local resident commenting on social media that she “couldn’t stop laughing.” Charlotte King, 34, explained the origin, stating, “For no obvious reason, my husband made a ‘birthing’ pumpkin and then our 15-year-old son Charley copied him.” She further noted, “We have had lots of comments on social media, it doesn’t normally gain much attention, but the pregnant pumpkins have this year.” Among the remarks posted online were “easily the best I’ve ever seen,” “whoever made these is obviously very talented,” and “some people are so clever.” The King Elliott family exhibits a strong competitive spirit annually during this season. Ms. King, her husband Byron Elliot, 36, and their two children, along with other relatives, vie to craft the most impressive pumpkin. The individual judged to have placed last faces the consequence of being splattered in the face with a cream pie or having flour poured over them. According to Ms. King, this tradition has been observed for several years. She mentioned that the family procures their pumpkins from local sources and dedicates approximately two to three hours to produce their Halloween “masterpieces.” For updates on Norfolk news, information is available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
