Two llamas have been assigned the roles of the wise men’s camels in a nativity performance at a cathedral. The half-brothers, named Harry and George, were selected for these parts in the Exeter Nativity, which took place on Sunday at Exeter Cathedral. Maggie Jee, who founded Llamas4Good, commented, “They absolutely love it and the cathedral love them. They always say they’re the stars of the show.” Harry and George are therapy llamas and frequently participate in community activities. “Harry and George are the camels or, as the cathedral like to call them, the llamels,” Miss Jee stated. Both animals will be fitted with pack saddles modified with cushions to simulate humps and will be guided by the three wise men through the cathedral. “They absolutely love it,” Miss Jee reiterated. “They love being the centre of attention.” Harry first participated in the Nativity in 2021, with George joining him in 2022. The pair were brought to the cathedral prior to the event to ensure their familiarity with the environment before the Nativity. “I mean obviously, for us, the most important thing is that they are happy with everything,” said Miss Jee, adding that the brothers were equally popular among adults and children. “At the end the children usually come up and meet them and stroke them,” she mentioned. “They have a sort of calming aura.”
