The proprietor of a salon and her employees have begun locking themselves inside their premises following two separate incidents where men shattered their windows, an act believed to be a “targeted” assault. The Lash Lounge, located in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, initially experienced damage on 13 November when bricks were hurled at its windows. Sarah Clay, the owner, initially considered the first event a random act until Tuesday, when the windows were once more broken by two masked individuals. Nottinghamshire Police stated that investigations are currently underway to identify and locate the perpetrators. Ms Clay, aged 42, commented that Beeston has “suddenly turned into not a very nice place to be” recently, attributing this to what she termed a “spate of antisocial behaviour.” The business owner, who has strong ties to the local community, expressed bewilderment as to why her salon would be singled out. She stated, “We don’t know them. We’ve not upset anybody as far as I’m concerned,” adding, “We’re all really nervous. I’m very nervous and very stressed at the moment. All the doors are being locked, we’re locking ourselves in.” In November, Ms Clay incurred approximately £2,000 to repair the windows, but she now anticipates an additional expenditure of up to £8,000 for further repairs and the installation of protective metal shutters. According to police, the perpetrators are thought to have proceeded towards the town centre after shattering the windows with objects believed to be hammers. Inspector Usha Madaraa, of the Broxtowe neighbourhood policing team, indicated that the occurrences are being investigated as potentially connected, and additional patrols have been deployed. She affirmed, “These incidents have caused a great deal of distress to the salon owner, and we are doing everything we can to find those responsible.”
