A fire service has reported that a kitchen fire originated from an air fryer. On Monday, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service crews responded to a call at a property in Weymouth, Dorset, where they located the appliance within a fully-developed kitchen fire. A spokesperson for the fire service commented: “The owner noticed an unusual crackling sound coming from their air fryer so removed the food thinking this may be the cause, but when the noises continued, quickly raised the alarm.” Fire service staff directed the owner to vacate the property, and the owner was uninjured. The kitchen suffered extensive damage, and the rest of the property experienced smoke damage. The fire service recommended that if an air fryer user detects crackling, smells smoke, or observes sparking, they should unplug the appliance immediately if it is safe to do so, and “get out, stay out and call 999”.
