Manchester United forward Mason Mount has expressed his “devastation” after a leg injury sidelined him for “several weeks”. Since his arrival at Manchester United in July 2023, Mount has participated in only nine Premier League starts. The England international sustained the injury and was forced to leave the field after only 14 minutes during Sunday’s Manchester derby victory against local rivals City. In a statement shared on Instagram, Mount conveyed his feelings, stating: “Words can’t portray how devastated I’m feeling right now.” He added: “You could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant.” Following United’s Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham, Amorim commented on Mount’s anticipated time off, remarking: “I don’t know the exact date but it is going to be long.” This marked Mount’s mere fourth Premier League start of the current season. In his inaugural season with United, after transferring from Chelsea in July 2023, he commenced only five matches. The 25-year-old player was sidelined for five months last season due to thigh and calf injuries, and has already missed two months of the ongoing campaign following hamstring and head injuries. Mount addressed United supporters, stating: “United fans, you may not know me too well yet but one thing I can guarantee, I will never give up or lose faith.” He reiterated: “I’ve said this before, but I will continue to give everything, get through this tough period and won’t stop until that’s achieved.” Amorim, who assumed management of United on 1 November, expressed his intention to “help” Mount navigate his injury challenges. When questioned about Mount’s susceptibility to injuries, Amorim responded: “That is not my department.” He elaborated on his role, stating: “What I can do is help Mase to teach him to play our game while he is recovering, to give him that time to think about different things.” Amorim concluded: “With Mason Mount, we are going to help him and it is really hard for him to be out so long. He is trying really hard. If they try hard, we will help them to the end.”
