A proposal has been revealed for the transformation of a former medical practice in Hull into a hotel featuring 30 rooms. John Symons House, constructed in 1862, stands as the final remaining Victorian villa on Park Row. For several years, it has been identified as an at-risk structure, and an earlier application for its demolition was rejected by Hull City Council. The submitted planning application details the addition of a two-storey side extension, a parking area for 14 vehicles, and facilities for bicycle storage. The Local Democracy Reporting Service reports that the building has remained vacant, even though approval was given earlier this year for its conversion into a 23-bedroom house in multiple occupation. The recently submitted planning statement asserts: “The reuse of the building has a number of indirect benefits, primarily economic, in terms of increasing the quantity and range of tourism accommodation available to visitors, supporting the vibrancy of the area and the services, shops and facilities that are on offer.” It further states that the planned extension is intended to complement the historic structure and obscure an existing “unsympathetic” addition.
