Police have prolonged the bail for an individual apprehended on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with the passing of ice hockey player Adam Johnson. Johnson, a forward for the Nottingham Panthers, sustained a fatal neck injury caused by a skate during a collision involving Matt Petgrave of the Sheffield Steelers on 28 October 2023. The 29-year-old athlete was transported to a hospital in Sheffield, where his death was confirmed. South Yorkshire Police stated that a post-mortem examination verified his death was due to a neck injury. The police force announced on Monday that the man, initially taken into custody in November 2023, has had his bail renewed until 20 January 2025. Det Ch Insp Benjamin Wood commented: “We have been working meticulously to fully understand the unprecedented circumstances in which Adam sadly lost his life.” He added: “This complex investigation into Adam’s death remains ongoing and we are continuing to work closely with the Crown Prosecution Service.” “Our thoughts remain wholeheartedly with Adam’s family at this time,” he concluded.
