A lifeboat charity has declared that a newly acquired thermal imaging camera is anticipated to “undoubtedly” save lives. The equipment was donated to Hornsea Inshore Rescue by the Humberside Fire and Rescue Service on Thursday. According to station manager Sue Hickson-Marsay, the crew previously possessed a camera, but it was old and outdated. Ms Hickson-Marsay explained that thermal imaging cameras, which are designed to detect body heat, prove especially valuable in low-visibility conditions. She further noted that the lifeboat crew had previously utilized such equipment to identify individuals stranded on cliffs and to locate people in the sea. In a social media post, the charity conveyed that the cameras would “undoubtedly save lives and improve the safety of our crew during rescue operations”. Ms Hickson-Marsay also mentioned that training for the crew on the new equipment would be conducted soon.
