Up to three live music and performance events annually are now permitted at a car boot sale site situated near Wombourne. This approval from South Staffordshire Council was granted despite objections from residents concerning potential noise disturbance and safety. The license allows for up to three days of events each year, which can include music, dance, similar performances, and the sale of alcohol. More than 20 objections were lodged against the license application for the Cols Car Boot Sale Site, located at the junction of Wombourne Road and Bridgnorth Road. The approval was contingent upon a series of conditions. These conditions stipulate that events are limited to Fridays and Saturdays, entrance must be ticket-only, start and finish times must be between 10:00 and 18:00, and alcohol sales are restricted to between 11:00 and 17:00. Under these conditions, a maximum of 3,000 tickets may be sold for each day an event is held. Free parking is also required to be provided on site. Wombourne Parish Council, which was among the objectors, stated: “We believe that this application could expose local families and young people to significant risks, including exploitation, drug trafficking, and gang-related activities.” A resident living opposite the field commented: “This will cause even more traffic and the junction is already notorious for road traffic accidents.” Another objector remarked: “Firstly it will increase the amount of rubbish and pollution along the Bridgnorth Road. Secondly it will increase the road congestion.” According to licensing sub-committee papers, applicants Donna Turley and Charlotte Whitehouse reached an agreement on conditions with Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service. They indicated that staff and marshals would be briefed on their zero-tolerance policy regarding drugs, violence, drunken behaviour, and vandalism. Noise levels and crowd behaviour would be monitored, and waste management, along with traffic and parking instructions, would be in place, they added. They further stated: “Children’s safety will be amongst our top priorities and adults will be met with signage that children are to be accompanied by an adult at all times.” This news was compiled by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, which covers councils and other public service organizations.
