The outcome of discussions between Omer Riza and Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan this week remains undisclosed. Riza traveled to Malaysia for a meeting with Tan to address Cardiff’s future, having served as interim manager since Erol Bulut’s dismissal on September 22. Vincent Tan is not known for making swift decisions regarding permanent managerial appointments, and this instance is consistent with his past approach to significant choices. Currently, Riza’s wait for a permanent role at Cardiff has been shorter than that experienced by Mark Hudson. Hudson assumed caretaker responsibilities on September 18, 2022, following Steve Morison’s exit. His full-time appointment as manager, for the former Bluebirds captain, occurred on November 14, a period of 57 days. In comparison, Riza’s tenure in charge has presently reached 54 days. Steve Morison similarly took on a temporary managerial role after Mick McCarthy’s dismissal in October 2021. However, the former Wales striker secured a permanent agreement with Tan within just 20 days. Ultimately, Morison’s time at Cardiff concluded unfavorably, as he departed in October 2022. Hudson, meanwhile, was dismissed only two months after receiving his permanent contract. Over Vincent Tan’s 14-year ownership of the Bluebirds, several other individuals have served as caretakers. Dean Whitehead assumed control after Hudson’s departure, but was succeeded by Sabri Lamouchi after 13 days. Ten years prior, Danny Gabbidon and Scott Young were appointed joint-caretaker managers following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit, remaining in the role for 17 days before Russell Slade took command at the Cardiff City Stadium. Furthermore, during the 2013-14 season, David Kerslake held the position for only six days after Malky Mackay’s departure, preceding Solskjaer’s appointment. While Tan’s decision regarding the club’s direction was prompt on that specific occasion, such swiftness has become less frequent in more recent years.
