A new initiative will offer secondary school students in Jersey the chance to design, construct, and race their own miniature F1 vehicles. Digital Jersey and Skills Jersey are collaborating to bring this international competition to the Channel Islands. The organizations stated that the program aims to foster students’ abilities in teamwork, marketing, project management, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) within the framework of Formula 1. Eighteen teams are expected to construct cars that will be propelled by a CO2 canister along a custom-built track. Tony Moretta, CEO of Digital Jersey, commented that the initiative is anticipated to “truly engage” students locally and enhance their STEM competencies, alongside their marketing, communication, teamwork, and project management capabilities. He further noted, “There is also a great opportunity to go and represent Jersey in the UK and, potentially, further afield.” Digital Jersey indicated that participants would be provided with computer-aided design software and specialized equipment. Following this, teams within Jersey will compete amongst themselves, with the victorious team advancing to a national UK finals stage, and possibly to the world finals scheduled for 2025. The previous year’s world finals took place over three days in Singapore, involving 68 participating teams. Readers can follow BBC Jersey on X and Facebook.
