The Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team (DFMRT) has indicated an ongoing need for fundraising to cover a deficit in the construction expenses for its forthcoming headquarters. This new facility for the mountain rescue team will be established in Foxfield, on a plot of land situated directly across from its current base. The team reported accumulating over £1 million within a ten-year period and stated it was “financially able to proceed with the basic base build”. Nevertheless, the organization clarified that it would be necessary to persist in generating funds to “pay off any loan and deal with the final fit out”. The DFMRT disclosed that the total expenditure for the undertaking has escalated to twice its original amount since 2019, attributing this increase to factors “before the Covid pandemic and other delays”. A statement shared on Facebook confirmed, “We have just agreed a builder with a fixed-price quote, which includes all ground works and contingencies.” Expressing its gratitude, the team conveyed that it was “immensely grateful” to its contributors. The Facebook update further noted, “Our supporters have been amazing and raised a further £200,000 during 2024 largely through smallish donations from hundreds of supporters, and hopefully this will continue.” For updates, follow BBC Cumbria on X, Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram.
