Formal consultation has commenced on plans designed to enhance safety and upgrade facilities along a section of Truro. These proposals, focusing on the river edge at Malpas Road, are an element of Truro’s green transport project, which is financed by the Town Deal, according to officials. The project’s objective is to bolster pedestrian and cycling infrastructure within the city and improve connectivity through the establishment of more effective and secure connections with current amenities, they stated. The proposed changes encompass enhanced access to existing footpaths and the introduction of new crossing points to link individuals with the riverside area. This consultation period began on Thursday and will conclude on 26 December. These proposals involve modifications to the Newham Trail, Malpas, Boscawen Park, and the national cycle network route. Funding for these initiatives will come from the £23.6 million allocated to Truro through the government’s Town Deal funding in June 2021, as confirmed by project leaders. Cornwall Council indicated that the scheme is scheduled for implementation in multiple phases to mitigate potential disturbances, with the aim of completing all plans by the close of 2025. Alan Stanhope, who chairs the Truro Town Deal Board, commented: “Our vision with the Truro Town Deal investment was to create a ‘connected river city’ and the Green Transport project brings everything together by encouraging people to use active travel such as walking and cycling to move around the city.” The plans are designed to enhance accessibility along Malpas Road and ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for pedestrians and cyclists utilizing the riverside.
