An individual has faced firearms charges in court subsequent to the evacuation of a high-rise building in Clydebank. Chris Gates, 26, entered no plea during his appearance at Dumbarton Sheriff Court. Occupants of Overtoun Court in the town were evacuated on Monday after police located a “suspect item” within a flat in the structure. This discovery occurred as officers conducted an investigation into the recent death of a 58-year-old man in the vicinity. A portion of residents were compelled to spend the night in a nearby community centre, whereas others lodged in hotels. Police Scotland reported that a bomb disposal unit performed a controlled explosion on the “device”. The police force additionally stated that there “was nothing to suggest” the suspect item held any connection to the death under investigation in the area, which took place on 17 October. The event resulted in the closure of the adjacent Dalmuir train station, leading to disruptions and cancellations for rail services operating through it. Mr. Gates is scheduled to reappear at the court within the forthcoming eight days.
