The official opening of a new facility offering professional assistance to families in a South Yorkshire town has taken place. This council-funded Family Hub, which commenced operations on Wednesday, is situated on Penistone’s High Street. It provides access to professionals such as health visitors, early help workers, and mental health specialists who are available to offer guidance. Barnsley Council stated that the hub’s objective is to deliver early intervention for families. This includes initiatives like preparing children for school readiness, assisting parents in enhancing their skills, and facilitating their access to training, educational programs, and employment prospects. Councillor Trevor Cave expressed his hope that a significant number of families within the community would utilize the service to “get the help and support they need”. He further stated: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the teams across all the services that have helped to launch the Hub – thanks to your work, our young children and families will get a lot of benefit from the support we offer here.” He also mentioned that the council intends to maintain collaboration with health partners and other organizations that engage with families, “to make sure our children get the very best start in life on their journey into young adulthood here in Barnsley”. During its inauguration, families had the opportunity to meet the staff providing assistance and were presented with various engaging activities, such as pencil case decorating, badge making, and access to a gaming tent. The council indicated that beyond the physical centre, individuals will also have the option to utilize a broad spectrum of services and activities online via a Virtual Family Hub. Additionally, Family Hubs in the Community will offer pop-up services at various locations, including libraries, youth centres, schools, and faith buildings.
