Rob and Natalie, Jada’s parents, expressed that they have received the ultimate Christmas gift. Their daughter, Jada, who is three years old, spent the previous Christmas and her January birthday hospitalized while receiving treatment for an uncommon lung tumour, described by medical professionals as being the size of a brick. This Christmas, however, she will be reunited with her family at their residence in Redditch, Worcestershire. Mr. Johnson stated, “The fact we’re going to be at home as a family, it’s going to be really great, really special.” Jada’s health challenges commenced in August 2023 with a diagnosis of pleuropulmonary blastoma, an uncommon and aggressive form of childhood cancer that develops in the lungs. Her mother, Natalie, recounted, “That’s when the doctors took us into a separate room and told us that she had a tumour in her chest taking up three-quarters of her chest capacity.” She added, “She was so weak at this point she had to be put on a ventilator in an induced coma.” Subsequently, she underwent 25 weeks of chemotherapy. Rob stated, “We didn’t know when it was going to end.” He continued, “But over the course of the chemotherapy, the tumour did shrink…which enabled the surgeons to cut out what was remaining.” Although Jada’s parents had been informed she would require time on a ventilator in intensive care, the surgical procedure proved sufficiently successful for her to proceed directly to the recovery room. Natalie commented, “She’s just so strong-willed”. Following her treatment, Cancer Research UK honored Jada with an award. Rob further remarked, “It’s going to be fantastic to see her opening her presents at home.” BBC Hereford & Worcester can be followed on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram. Copyright 2024 BBC.
