An aspiring young actress living with Down’s syndrome has fulfilled her “lifelong dream” by appearing in her inaugural movie. Claudia Beatty, 18, from Broughshane, County Antrim, featured in the film *King Frankie*, which premiered in cinemas last month. Claudia’s mother, Cheryl Beatty, expressed appreciation for opportunities that enable children like her daughter to “meet their full potential and be involved.” The movie centers on the redemption narrative of taxi driver Frankie Burke, following the passing of his father. Claudia’s character, Grainne Rafferty, develops a touching and strong bond with Frankie as he transports her. Upon being the first to learn of Claudia’s casting, her proud mother Cheryl conveyed the news to her daughter. Claudia stated she felt “happy and relieved” to have secured the part. Since then, she has embraced every aspect, from working on set to attending movie premieres. Cheryl commended the film’s crew and cast for being “absolutely amazing and so inclusive.” Claudia mentioned that everyone was kind, but she particularly enjoyed the chocolate treats provided by the director, Dermot Malone. Claudia identified her favorite scene in the movie as the conclusion, where her character embraces Frankie, portrayed by Peter Coonan. She explained, “The reason why this is my favourite is because Frankie really needs the hug.” She added, “He was really upset abut his father so I gave him a hug to show him that I cared for him.” Following the filming, Claudia has attended the premiere and various film festivals. She remarked, “I love taking pictures on the red carpet and I love to see me on the big screen.” She continued, “I feel like a celebrity because I have never been on the big screen before, it is the first time and I am just excited.” Witnessing her daughter walk the red carpet was a moment that “hit home” for Cheryl. She shared, “We are all very proud of her achievement, it has been great just to watch her over the past year and watching the journey of the film.” Cheryl noted that her daughter “always absolutely loved singing and dancing” since she began ballet and tap dancing. Discovering her enjoyment of being on stage, Claudia decided to pursue acting as well. She enrolled in Starburst Theatre School in Antrim, though her mother Cheryl initially harbored concerns. Cheryl recalled, “I was a bit apprehensive thinking: ‘Will she be included in any of the productions?'” However, Claudia flourished and participated in all of the school’s productions. Cheryl stated, “They were the ones that put her forward for this role and she got the part… so she has surpassed her expectations and met her full potential.” She further commented, “I also think in today’s society there is a more general feeling of inclusivity for children like Claudia.” Cheryl emphasized, “A really important message to drive home is that special needs, it doesn’t define Claudia, it’s not who she is, it is just an additional feature. “She can achieve just as much as anybody else.” Offering guidance to others, Claudia advised, “Follow your dream, follow your heart and where it leads.” Post navigation Robbie Williams to Stage Concert at Historic Royal Crescent Eastbourne International Airshow Confirmed for 2025 Return
