A dispersal order has been implemented in a town centre after a group of young individuals began intimidating people. Durham Police reported that officers addressed this conduct earlier in the week on St Cuthbert’s Walk in Chester-le-Street, County Durham. The dispersal order encompasses Front Street and the surrounding vicinity, remaining in effect until 18:00 GMT on Saturday. The force indicated that those causing disturbances would either be directed to leave or face arrest. Inspector Simon Hogg stated that the anti-social behaviour in the area was “completely unacceptable”. He further commented, “Chester-le-Street town centre should be a place for everyone to enjoy, not spoiled by a small number of individuals causing anti-social behaviour.” He added, “Those who choose to cause issues will be dealt with robustly.” The force also mentioned that additional officers would be on patrol over the weekend to “monitor the situation”. Specifically, the dispersal order covers Front Street, extending from the cricket ground down to Market Place. It also includes a significant portion of the surrounding area, such as Mains Park Road, Clarence Terrace, and Co-operative Street. This order grants officers the authority to direct individuals to move on and prohibit them from the area if they are believed to be engaging in anti-social behaviour. Non-compliance with the order can lead to arrest. Through social media, Durham Police urged parents to verify the whereabouts of their children. A spokesperson remarked, “This is not acceptable behaviour and as a result of this we have had to take intrusive action to try and control the anti-social behaviour in this area.”
