A youth facility in West Bromwich underwent a celebrity-enhanced renovation during a Children in Need special episode of the BBC’s “Interior Design Masters.” Host Alan Carr was joined by six well-known personalities, who donned overalls and opened paint cans as they competed to create the most effective designs. The television program focused on the Sandwell Young Carers Project (SYCP), an initiative funded by Children in Need that supports young individuals with caregiving responsibilities for a dependent family member. Tracey Hawkins, the centre’s chief executive, stated that the children “deserve the very best.” As part of the show, the famous participants revitalized several areas: a playroom designated for five to 11-year-olds, a games room for those aged 12 to 18, an art room, a music room, a relaxation area, and a meeting area. Situated on Bratt Street, the building offers a sanctuary where children who care for their loved ones can spend time away from home and unwind. Comedian Jon Richardson collaborated with model and television presenter Leomie Anderson during the episode. Musician and actor Martin Kemp formed a partnership with his wife, the renowned singer Shirlie Kemp. The final team consisted of comedian Darren Harriott and podcast host Joanne McNally. Richardson contributed to the development of a relaxation room during the program. “The effect that building will have on a generation of young people makes the world better,” he commented. Richardson further remarked, “If you want to live in a better world then you start providing stuff like that for kids everywhere.” Concurrently, Martin Kemp, whose design for a music room was praised as the program’s top creation, expressed: “I’m on cloud nine – I wanted to make a room that was inspirational, aspirational. “Music has done so much for me in my life, it’s just nice to give it to someone else.” After the renovation, Ms. Hawkins stated: “Providing care for someone does make you a special person. “Making those rooms special has made them feel recognised and loved. “They deserve the very best. “This makeover is going to make such a huge difference to the children we support and I’m so excited for everyone to see it.” For updates, follow BBC Birmingham on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
