Motorists have been advised of upcoming three-week road closures on a frequently used route in Derby. These closures are necessary for the construction of new cycle lanes and pedestrian crossings. The city council has announced that the latest phase of works on Derby Road in Spondon will involve an overnight closure of a section between the Asda and Raynesway roundabouts, commencing on January 12. The closure will be in effect from 22:00 to 06:00 GMT, Sunday through Friday. The road is expected to remain open on Saturday nights “where possible.” Council transport officials have stated that both roundabouts will stay accessible, but alternative routes will be implemented. A clearly marked diversion will be in place for through traffic, directing it along the A52, via Pentagon Island and Nottingham Road. The council also indicated that the junctions for Aspen Drive and Asda will experience impacts. Access to Asda is anticipated to encounter “some daytime disruption,” with vehicles being redirected through Aspen Drive. Following the conclusion of the Derby Road project, resurfacing work is slated to begin on Nottingham Road. Councillor Carmel Swan, the cabinet member for transport, commented: “I appreciate that these works may be disruptive, but we have worked hard with contractors to make sure that access is maintained wherever possible and disruption is kept to a minimum.”
