Millwall has announced that David Livermore will assume interim management of the first team. This appointment comes as the club seeks a permanent replacement for Neil Harris, under whom Livermore previously served at Cardiff City, Gillingham, and Millwall. Neil Harris, the club’s all-time leading scorer, departed The Den following Saturday’s Championship loss against Middlesbrough. The announcement of Harris’s decision to leave the club was made last Tuesday, with the 47-year-old subsequently managing his final home fixture the next day. Livermore, who served as Harris’s assistant, is scheduled to be in the dugout when The Lions host Blackburn Rovers this Saturday. Speaking to Millwall’s website, Livermore stated, “I feel privileged to be entrusted with taking temporary charge of the first team.” He further added, “I care deeply about this football club and with the support of Adam [Barrett], Kevin [Nugent] and Andy [Marshall], three experienced coaches, our sole aim and focus is preparing the players for this weekend League fixture against Blackburn Rovers at The Den.” David Livermore served as Neil Harris’s assistant manager at Millwall between 2015 and 2019, subsequently rejoining the club as assistant head coach this year. Livermore continued, “We know this squad of players very well and have great relationships with them all. We look forward to working with the team and the support staff to achieve a positive result for the football club this Saturday.” Livermore played 314 matches for Millwall from 1999 to 2006, during which he scored 14 goals. The 44-year-old, alongside Harris, achieved promotion to the second tier in the 2000-01 season. Both also featured in The Lions’ 1-0 FA Cup final loss to Manchester United in 2003-04, before Harris’s departure to Nottingham Forest later that year. Livermore’s tenure as assistant manager at Millwall spanned from 2015 to 2019. He collaborated with Harris at Cardiff City and Gillingham prior to their joint return to The Den in February of this year. Millwall currently occupies the 13th position in the Championship standings with 25 points, having failed to secure a victory in their last six matches.
