Motorists have reported that they are avoiding a particular city car park, asserting that they have been unfairly issued penalties. Among those affected is Dione Osborne of Peterborough, who, along with several others, stated receiving a £100 fine for parking at the Chadburn Centre in Paston during what should have been a complimentary grace period. The parking facility, managed by ParkMaven, provides 90 minutes of free parking and is situated close to convenience stores, a pizza restaurant, and a hairdressing salon. The Chadburn Centre’s management acknowledged being informed of customer “issues” concerning the car park and indicated they had escalated these concerns to the parking management company for “urgent resolution.” ParkMaven has been approached for a statement. Alex Rafiq, the Conservative councillor representing Paston and Walton, reported that he had been contacted by “several residents and businesses in the last few days” regarding worries about receiving parking tickets, even though they maintained they departed within the allotted free parking duration. He noted that “some elderly people have paid the fine out of fear because they didn’t know what to do.” Councillor Rafiq added, “I am trying to get in touch with the centre owners and the car parking company to sort this out. Many people are now avoiding the centre. This will be detrimental to the businesses.” Ms. Osborne recounted that she typically visited the centre each morning to collect a newspaper for her elderly father and expressed that she “couldn’t believe it” upon receiving a parking notice. She stated, “The ticket they sent me says I was there two hours and forty-five minutes. It is rubbish, as I was in Thorney with my dad.” She further commented, “It is disgusting to be honest. I put it on social media and so many people have been in touch to share their experiences.” An individual employed at a nearby shop, who chose to remain anonymous, reported receiving a letter demanding a payment of £170. This person stated, “They accused me of parking there from 12:00 on 18th November until 10:00 on 19th November, which is impossible.” A spokesperson for The Chadburn Centre, which is part of LCP Properties, issued a statement: “We are aware that certain customers have experienced issues at this site and have raised this with the parking management company to urgently resolve.” For updates on Peterborough news, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
