A man and a juvenile have entered guilty pleas to the charge of manslaughter concerning a 15-year-old boy, who sustained a fatal stab wound to the chest. Isaac Brown was assaulted in West Bromwich, specifically in New Square, shortly after 21:00 BST on 7 April. Reehan Nezir, aged 18, along with a 14-year-old individual whose identity cannot be disclosed, confessed to the manslaughter charge at Bolton Crown Court on Tuesday. They also admitted to additional charges of robbery and carrying a bladed article. Previously, the two teenagers had denied the charge of murder. The presiding judge subsequently instructed the jury to render a not guilty verdict for that particular accusation. Sentencing for both defendants is scheduled to take place at the aforementioned court on 31 January. According to West Midlands Police, Brown and two of his friends had made arrangements to encounter Nezir and the 14-year-old to “sort out” a disagreement. The police force indicated that a 12-year-old boy had been robbed earlier on the same evening by a group in Smethwick, which comprised the two defendants. Police stated that Brown was acquainted with the robbery victim via a friend and disseminated messages on social media platforms to ascertain the identities of the assailants. The defendants engaged in communication with Brown and his friend through social media, leading to an escalation of tensions between the two factions, who subsequently convened in West Bromwich. Police reported that surveillance camera footage depicted confrontations among the teenagers, during which weapons were displayed, and Brown suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest. Nezir, residing on Edith Road in Smethwick, and the 14-year-old absconded, but both were apprehended the subsequent day. At the time of the incident, they were 17 and 13 years old, respectively. In a statement disseminated by the police, Brown’s family characterized him as “a wonderful, loving, kind, happy, son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin.” They further stated that he was “fun and mischievous, always smiling and always there to help”. The family expressed, “We are unable to understand what has happened. We just want him back and this not to have happened.” BBC Birmingham content can be accessed via BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
