A significant road in West Yorkshire has been closed following damage to a sewer pipe, with the closure anticipated to continue through the remainder of the week. Yorkshire Water announced that the A646 Halifax Road, located in Charlestown, Hebden Bridge, was closed in both directions on Friday evening as an “emergency” action. The utility company stated its efforts to mend the damage “as soon as possible.” Nevertheless, the thoroughfare, which connects Hebden Bridge with nearby Todmorden, is projected to impact daily travelers and individuals shopping for Christmas gifts until at least Friday. A company representative stated: “We have done our best to get everything we need to site over the weekend to ensure a speedy fix of both the culvert, which usually falls under council responsibility, and the damaged sewer. “We have broken ground and will repair both assets, to make sure everything is back to normal as soon as possible.” Yorkshire Water further explained: “The issue is deep underground, so to ensure the safety of our colleagues and customers, we need to keep the diversion in place for at least a week, unless any unexpected complications arise.” Alternative routes have been established; heavy goods vehicles are directed to divert via the M62, while local vehicles are advised to utilize the A58 passing through Littleborough. Councillor Sarah Courtney, who serves as Calderdale Council’s Cabinet member for transport, commented: “We absolutely understand how disruptive this emergency road closure is, and as a resident of Hebden Bridge I know that people living and working in the area are concerned about the timing and duration of the closure.” She added: “We’re doing all we can to advise people that businesses are still open as normal and would appreciate people’s support, especially at this busy time of year.” Post navigation Passengers Injured After Land Train Overturns in Cornwall South West Rail Travelers to London Face Post-Christmas Disruption
