Reuben Kirby, an eight-year-old from Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire, who provides the voice for the titular fish in BBC1’s upcoming Christmas family animation film Tiddler, described his involvement as “very exciting.” The film is scheduled for broadcast at 14:35 GMT on Christmas Day. This film, Tiddler, represents the newest screen adaptation of a book by Julia Donaldson, known for “The Gruffalo.” Reuben portrays Tiddler, a young blue fish characterized by being consistently late for school and possessing a vivid imagination, whose narrative unfolds through a significant underwater adventure. Speaking to BBC North West Tonight, Reuben stated, “It was very, very exciting.” He added, “Tiddler is kind of a fish version of me.” This marks his inaugural professional acting engagement, which he noted was particularly meaningful due to his admiration for Julia Donaldson’s work. Julia Donaldson’s books are illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Last year, an animated adaptation of their book, “Tabby McTat,” a heart-warming story about a busker and his cat, attracted an audience of 8.6m viewers. From his residence, Reuben informed the BBC, “I read all the books when I was younger, Tiddler being the favourite.” He further commented on the film, saying, “I loved the film. It was the best Julia Donaldson one I have seen and I have seen all of them.” Hannah Waddingham, known for her role in “Ted Lasso,” serves as the narrator, heading the cast for the half-hour animated special, Tiddler.
