School pupils and staff have gathered over 750 football shirts. These shirts are intended for redistribution as gifts to children who might not otherwise receive presents this year. Ernulf Academy, located in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, has served as a central point for the Kitmas 24 initiative. The academy has been involved in sorting hundreds of pre-owned football shirts, which were collected from various locations throughout the UK. This crowdfunding effort, which began five years ago, was initiated by football podcaster Paul Watson. Its objective is to find new homes for football shirts that are in very good condition. Michael Cox, the academy’s vice principal, stated that the participating students expressed a desire to contribute to both their local community and other areas. He informed BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, “We know the joy and wonder of having a football shirt and this charity helps re-home them.” Upon arrival at the school, the shirts undergo a process of sorting by size, a check of their condition, and subsequent boxing. Student Amelia commented that every young individual ought to have the opportunity to unwrap something special on Christmas. She stated, “Doing this just makes sure everyone is able to do that… it feels so satisfying to know people are going to get that present for Christmas.” Principal Thomas Fisher remarked, “It’s great to see how much they want to help other children who otherwise may not get any presents this Christmas.” He added, “We want our pupils to develop confidence, independence and resilience, whilst being considerate, tolerant and to contribute to the wider community and I think this project has helped to demonstrate these wonderful qualities from our students.” Information regarding Cambridgeshire news is available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
