The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has reported that two individuals were hospitalized following an explosion at a terraced residence in north-east London. Social media footage captured a substantial blast at the Ilford property, which had been converted into flats, showing masonry fragments being propelled into the street. The LFB deployed eight fire engines and approximately 60 firefighters to manage the blaze on Ley Street, shortly after 16:00 GMT. The brigade indicated that at its peak, the fire had rendered the first floor and loft conversion “fully alight.” The extent of the injuries sustained by the two people transported to the hospital has not been disclosed. Station commander Darren McTernan, who was present at the scene, stated: “Firefighters worked hard to bring this fire under control. Crews will remain on scene throughout the evening.” He also noted that Ley Street remains closed between Eastern Avenue and Vicarage Road, causing traffic disruption in the surrounding area, and advised people to “please continue to avoid the area if you can.” The fire was brought under control by 18:23. Its cause is currently under investigation. A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service confirmed: “We sent resources including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic practitioner, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (Hart).” The spokesperson added: “We treated three people. We took two to hospital and discharged a third at the scene.”
