Daniel Galloway, a resident of Kirby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, is preparing for a 13,000ft skydive. He states that the motivations behind this jump, which honors his mother who was brutally murdered by her neighbor, will provide him with encouragement. In 2019, police visited Mr. Galloway to inform him that his mother, Vera Hudson, had been killed at her home in Hull. Mark Jewitt, 25, of Constable Street, Hull, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2020, with an order to serve a minimum of 15 years, after admitting to Ms. Hudson’s murder. Since the tragedy, Mr. Galloway has been raising funds in her memory for Victim Support, an organization that assisted him and his family. Recalling the time of his mother’s death at age 57, Mr. Galloway stated: “Police sat us down and told us my mum had been murdered by her neighbour and that she had been hit with a dumbbell about 50 or 60 times across her head, and her body had been left on the stairway.“I couldn’t really believe it… [I kept] still expecting to get calls from her.” The 37-year-old noted that the memory remains “fresh… because my mum’s story is still on Netflix.” He added: “Every one of my friends and family say she’d be proud of me that I’m trying to do something for others.” Mr. Galloway plans to undertake the skydive once he reaches his fundraising goal of £3,000; he has currently raised £1,000. Commenting on the skydive, he remarked: “I’ll probably be a bit nervous, but I know the reasons behind it and that’s a big encouragement.” He clarified that he is personally covering the cost of the skydive, ensuring all money raised will go directly to charity. Mr. Galloway mentioned that his first fundraising event was a 57-mile (92km) walk from Bridlington to Hull with his brother, Darren Slack, and he also organized a music charity event. His next endeavor is an 1,000km (621 mile) walk with his brother, and in the future, he aims to walk the Great Wall of China.
