An A-road is scheduled for closure until spring 2025 to facilitate necessary repairs. Specifically, the A36, connecting Limpley Stoke in Wiltshire and Monkton Combe in Somerset, will be inaccessible starting at 21:00 GMT on Sunday. Safety enhancement work, to be performed by contractors, will encompass the stabilization of the southbound embankment. This action follows the detection of cracks in the adjacent footpath. Hugh Campbell, who serves as senior project manager for National Highways, stated that the complete closure is intended to enable the project’s completion “safely and quickly, causing less disruption overall.” He further commented, “Once it’s all complete, these improvements will benefit road users and the local community for many years to come.” Alternative routes will be established for the entire period of the work. This work will also include the installation of new drainage and netting on the rock face situated above the northbound carriageway. This road, which serves as a link between Southampton and Bath, previously experienced a nine-week closure in August. That closure occurred after cracks were identified in the footpath located between Limpley Stoke viaduct and the village of Limpley Stoke. It was reopened in October to facilitate crucial work on the A350 and M4.
