Surrey Police is cautioning the public to remain vigilant against burglars as daylight hours diminish. According to the police, opportunistic thieves seek a “quick win,” particularly when residences are vacant due to half-term breaks, Halloween celebrations, and Bonfire Night events. The #DontFallVictim initiative by Surrey Police seeks to draw attention to the increase in burglaries typically observed during this season. Local inhabitants are advised to ensure their doors are secured, keep precious items out of view, and utilize timed lighting if they plan to be away from home after nightfall. Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Hicks, who leads on burglary matters for Surrey Police, stated: “People deserve to feel safe in their homes and the burglary of a property destroys this sense of safety. We are asking people to consider their home security and if there is anything they can do to improve their home’s safety this autumn and winter.” Connect with BBC Surrey via Facebook and X.
