Geoff Doyle, Sports Editor for BBC Three Counties Radio, reports that Luton has now incurred six consecutive away league defeats, a situation described as “pretty miserable” for their traveling supporters. These losses have included significant goal concessions, such as five goals at Middlesbrough, four at Norwich, and three each at Leeds, Coventry, and Plymouth. Rob Edwards’ team is consistently conceding goals in away matches and appears unable to secure clean sheets. The Hatters’ defense within their own penalty box is insufficient, despite a high number of players present in the area. Opposing players are reportedly not being marked or tracked effectively, and individual players are failing to take responsibility for clearing dangerous situations. Consequently, Luton is depending on its home performance and is presumed to be awaiting the January transfer window to recruit new players. The injury to Alfie Doughty represents a significant setback for the team. In the Championship, only Finn Azaz has generated more scoring opportunities than Doughty, who serves as Luton’s primary attacking threat, albeit largely from set-pieces. The absence of a suitable left-sided replacement for him is considered poor planning. The departure of skilled midfielders Ross Barkley and Sambi Lokonga was anticipated to have an impact. However, the Hatters have also experienced a decline in pace, suggesting a need to acquire fast players in January. The team’s current play style is described as overly predictable. Without increased pace and the return of Doughty, Luton is projected to continue facing difficulties.
