A children’s charity has launched a nationwide campaign that includes providing complimentary safeguarding training to individuals residing in south-west England and the Channel Islands. The NSPCC is making available these free workshops and online training sessions as part of its “Listen Up, Speak Up” campaign, which commences on Monday, November 25. According to the organisers, this training is accessible to community groups, businesses, and various other organisations, designed to assist them in recognising instances of child neglect or abuse. Emma Motherwell, who serves as the NSPCC’s local campaigns manager, stated that all individuals can “play a part in keeping children safe” once they understand “what to do” when concerns arise. She further explained, “This can range from practically supporting a family, being a listening ear or letting someone know about your concerns, such as a parent, a safeguarding lead for a sports club, or even contacting the NSPCC Helpline.” The NSPCC also indicated that the training curriculum would encompass identifying signs that a child may be at risk, strategies for initiating challenging conversations, and guidance on who to contact if an individual has concerns regarding a child or their family. Mrs. Motherwell elaborated that the workshops are designed to “run through different scenarios, talk about the things that stop people raising concerns and give some advice about broaching these conversations, which can be difficult.” Additionally, the charity announced that it is providing 10-minute digital sessions, open for attendance by any member of the public.
