The trial of a woman charged with the attempted murder of her husband and a child has commenced. Prosecutors allege that Jacqueline Mounsey stabbed Mark Bennett and the child in the neck, subsequently inflicting injuries upon herself in Carlisle. During proceedings at Carlisle Crown Court, it was disclosed that law enforcement responded to a call at Whernside, located in the city’s Morton area, on June 10, where officers discovered three individuals with stab wounds. Ms. Mounsey, aged 53, faces two charges of attempted murder, to which she has pleaded not guilty. In his opening statement, Prosecutor Iain Simkin KC characterized the proceedings as a “difficult and tragic case”. He further stated that it is the Crown’s assertion that Ms. Mounsey was “trying to kill, and wanted to kill” and that she employed “persistent, deadly violence”.
