Authorities in the Canadian city of Vancouver have reported that two people sustained stab wounds, and a suspect was fatally shot by officers. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, when law enforcement responded to a report of a man armed with a knife who had stolen alcohol from a restaurant. The two individuals who were injured in the assault were transported to a hospital. Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. Police have not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased suspect. In an official statement, Vancouver Police indicated that a caller “reported a man had stolen alcohol and was armed with a knife” inside a restaurant located near the city’s central library. Upon the arrival of officers, the armed suspect was found inside a nearby convenience store. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was subsequently shot and taken into custody. Police personnel and first responders attempted to provide aid to the suspect, who later died at the hospital. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation. Video footage reviewed by the Canadian Press reportedly shows police discharging firearms over the counter of a convenience store and yelling “move over” as they aim their weapons. An additional video appears to show emergency responders performing chest compressions on the suspect.
