A mother has voiced concerns that her son “won’t get justice” following an incident where he was struck by a car, sustaining a broken leg, cuts, and bruises. The collision occurred outside a primary school in Birmingham. Azmina was present with her 10-year-old son, Abbas, when he was hit and injured on 11 October while crossing the busy Stratford Road, adjacent to Hall Green Junior School. Two months later, Azmina alleged that West Midlands Police had been “ignoring her” and stated that the family felt abandoned due to insufficient communication. The police force confirmed it was conducting an investigation and, subsequent to contact from the BBC, visited the family to provide an update. Abbas was transported to the hospital with a fractured lower left leg, along with cuts and bruises on his face, hands, and legs. He remained under observation for six hours before being discharged. Azmina reported that her son had experienced significant anxiety regarding his return to school, though he has since achieved a physical recovery. The BBC has learned that officers engaged with a driver at the scene; however, Azmina stated she had received no further communication since that time. “They haven’t been cooperative at all; there has been no support, no aftercare, no liaising, nothing from the police,” she said. “It just makes you wonder, is anything going to happen, or will it just get brushed under the carpet?” “This is quite a big thing happening outside a school to a young child; they should take it seriously.” Road safety in areas surrounding schools within the city is a significant concern for campaigners. Mat MacDonald, representing Better Streets for Birmingham, commented: “It’s an incredibly hostile place for pedestrians, which is especially true for children who are the most vulnerable people when it comes to collisions. What we urgently need to see is investment in the safety of those who are outside vehicles in spaces like this.” Following contact from the BBC, West Midlands Police officers visited the family to obtain witness and impact statements. The force confirmed that no arrests have been made. In a statement, the police force declared: “We are investigating after a collision on Stratford Road, Hall Green, on 11 October, where a child was hit by a car. Officers carried out enquiries at the scene and took the details of the driver involved. CCTV has also been recovered and reviewed, and details of witnesses taken. We understand how upsetting this has been for the child’s family and will be making contact with the family to update them on the investigation.” Post navigation Residents Confined During Masked Burglary in Carryduff Scaffolder on Trial for Fatal Punch Expresses ‘Heartbreak’
