Hollywood actor Jamie Foxx has revealed the reason for his hospitalization in April of the previous year. Speaking during a Netflix special, the “Django Unchained” star informed the audience that he had experienced a “brain bleed that led to a stroke.” Foxx recounted having a severe headache one day and requesting an aspirin; however, prior to consuming it, he “went out (blacked out). I don’t remember 20 days.” At the time, his daughter Corinne Foxx stated that he had encountered a “medical complication,” but the family did not share specific details about his health issues. During an emotional discussion with the audience for “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…,” filmed in Atlanta—the city where he was working when his illness began—Foxx explained that medical personnel initially discharged him after administering a cortisone injection. Subsequently, his sister visited him, perceived that he was not acting like himself, and transported him by car to Piedmont Hospital. It was then that a doctor informed him he was experiencing a brain bleed that had resulted in a stroke, stating: “If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him.” He mentioned that his sister prayed continuously outside the operating theatre throughout his surgery. Medical professionals were unable to pinpoint the source of the brain bleed. Foxx further shared with the audience that “your life doesn’t flash before your face, it was kind of oddly peaceful, I saw a tunnel, I didn’t see the light.” He humorously added: “It was hot in that tunnel, am I going to the wrong place?” Foxx stated that the doctor informed his family: “He may be able to make a full recovery but it’s going to be the worst year of his life.” The actor expressed significant gratitude for his sister, Deidra Dixon, and daughter, Corinne, for “holding it down” to prevent anyone from seeing him. He conveyed to his fans, “They didn’t want you to see me like this and I didn’t want you to see me like this.” He indicated that his head movements were somewhat unstable following the stroke, and his daughter was concerned about people creating memes from his appearance. He recalled waking up on May 4, 2023, finding himself in a wheelchair due to an inability to walk, and having no memory of the reason. He added that he was initially in denial, thinking: “Jamie Foxx don’t get strokes.” He disclosed that he subsequently underwent rehabilitation in Chicago. Foxx had been engaged in filming Netflix’s “Back In Action” with Cameron Diaz when his illness occurred. While he has previously spoken positively about his family’s support, this marks the initial instance he has provided specific details regarding his medical condition.
