Henry Gaskin, a 29-year-old man from Thorne, near Doncaster, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison. This jail term was imposed after he crashed a vehicle into a shop front while attempting to evade law enforcement officers. Mr. Gaskin began his flight after local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) identified a black Suzuki Vitara linked to a wanted individual, prompting the deployment of additional officers to the area. Dashcam footage shows Mr. Gaskin driving dangerously before colliding with a shop near the junction of Grange Road and Marshall Road on November 5. The business premises appeared to be closed at the time. PC John Sharp, who oversaw the case, stated that Gaskin was “fortunate” no-one was seriously injured. PC Sharp commented, “He caused a considerable amount of damage to a local business before fleeing the scene to try and get away from our officers.” He further added, “However, we ensured that additional resources were deployed to the area to arrest Gaskin and prevent him from evading justice.” Subsequently, Mr. Gaskin pleaded guilty to multiple offences. These included driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving while disqualified, damaging property, possession of cannabis, and using a vehicle without insurance. At his sentencing hearing at Sheffield Crown Court on December 6, he was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for three years. To regain his licence, he must successfully complete an extended driving test.
