Forward Anis Mehmeti has asserted that Bristol City possesses the necessary squad depth to establish itself as a “top team” and compete effectively in the Championship this season. This statement follows his contribution of one goal and an assist in the recent away victory against Norwich City. Currently, The Robins occupy 10th place in the league standings as the international break commences, trailing Watford by three points for the final play-off position. Their next fixture is scheduled for 23 November against fourth-placed Burnley. Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Mehmeti reflected on the team’s potential and past performances, noting that despite their capabilities, they have sometimes fallen short. He stated, “We know we’re a top team but sometimes we’ve fell short, like against Sheff U where we should come out with three points, I think that’s the Championship,” referring to City’s 2-1 defeat to the Blades last week after conceding two late goals. He continued, “That’s what we said at the beginning of the season and I know we have the players and the squad depth to do that. Not everyone is going to play every game but we need to be ready.” Mehmeti further elaborated on the importance of readiness and competition within the squad, drawing on his own experience: “Like myself, for example, I haven’t started the last three games and obviously been frustrated but I get back on the pitch and want to contribute with goals to keep my position.” He concluded by emphasizing the benefits of internal rivalry: “Healthy competition but at the end of the day everyone wants to play. As long as we’re all competing for spots we know that it’s only going to be positive for the team.”
