Authorities have filed charges against a man for the murder of an eight-year-old girl and the attempted murder of her mother, an incident that occurred in New Ross, County Wexford. Malika Al Kattib sustained injuries at a residence within the town on Sunday evening. Her mother, Aisha Al Kattib, also suffered injuries during the event. She received transport to a hospital, where her injuries were determined to be non life-threatening. Mohammad Al Shaker Al Tamimi, whose address is listed as Lower William Street in New Ross, appeared before Gorey District Court on Wednesday evening, according to a report from the court by Irish broadcaster RTÉ. A Detective Garda, a member of the Irish police force, presented testimony regarding the arrest, the formal charge, and the caution given. The detective stated that he formally charged Mr Al Tamimi shortly after 17:00 local time at University Hospital Waterford. The charges against him include the murder of Malika Al Katib and the attempted murder of Aisha Al Katib. The garda reported that the accused did not respond to the charges. Mr Al Tamimi has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before Wexford District Court by video link on 9 December. The presiding judge issued directives for Mr Al Tamimi to undergo a psychological evaluation.
