Full-time students in Jersey, who are 18 years of age or older, are now eligible for complimentary consultations at GP surgeries. The Government of Jersey stated that this initiative is designed to enhance students’ health and wellbeing by ensuring they can obtain medical advice free from financial concerns. The government confirmed that the Health Insurance Fund will cover the costs of the scheme. Automatic enrollment in the program will apply to students attending most Jersey secondary schools, Highlands College, and those registered with Student Finance, according to the government. Students not covered by automatic enrollment have the option to apply by contacting the Health Benefits Team within the Customer and Local Services department via email. Services excluded from this scheme include home visits, out-of-hours care, and supplementary services such as blood tests, urine tests, pregnancy tests, referral letters, and other related ancillary provisions. Deputy Lyndsay Feltham, the Minister for Social Security, commented: “Reducing GP fees is a government priority, helping to ease financial pressures on households.” She added, “It is important that we continue to improve access to primary care services and expand this to include students.”
