Cardiff City manager Omer Riza has indicated that forwards Kion Etete and Isaak Davies are nearing their comeback for the Bluebirds. Both players, who have not featured this season, experienced delays in their recovery after sustaining hamstring injuries, having initially been anticipated to return in October. Etete participated in a Premier League Cup fixture for the Bluebirds’ under-21 team against Watford on Thursday, 19 December, starting the match which Cardiff won 3-1. Wales Under-21 striker Davies is similarly approaching his return to play, having commenced running activities. Defender Perry Ng and midfielder Ollie Tanner continue to be unavailable due to injury. They have been joined on the sidelines by forward Michael Reindorf, who sustained an injury ahead of Saturday’s home fixture against Championship leaders Sheffield United. Speaking to BBC Sport Wales, Riza stated: “Michael Reindorf went down injured [on Thursday]. He hurt his ankle and I’m not sure the extent of that yet.” Riza provided further insight into the team’s injury situation, stating: “The others, Isaak is starting to do some running on the pitch and we will hopefully incorporate him in football stuff over the next week. Kion will be getting minutes with the under-21s and all the rest are either long-standing or medium-term.Perry Ng is still not quite there yet, Ollie Tanner the same. We are a bit thin at the moment, but all the boys are ready to go into the game confident and with fighting spirit.”
