A man who drove to a police force’s headquarters with a “boot full of drugs” was described by an officer as either “arrogant or stupid.” Dilshad Ahmed received a 15-month jail sentence after admitting to driving to Cheshire Police HQ with cannabis in his vehicle. Security personnel detected the smell of cannabis from his car, leading to the discovery of eight 28-gram (1oz) bags in the boot and an additional 28-gram (1oz) bag beneath the driver’s seat. PC Matt Uren commented on the incident, stating: “To drive to a police headquarters with a boot full of illegal drugs and think that you’d be able to get away with it is either arrogant or stupid.” Ahmed undertook a journey of approximately 65 miles (100km) from Smethwick to Winsford, transporting cannabis with an estimated potential street value ranging from £1,440 to £2,250. The 39-year-old, a resident of Smethwick, received his sentence at Chester Crown Court on Wednesday. He had previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class B drugs on June 27. PC Uren further explained: “Ahmed was well aware that the drugs were in his car but he thought that it was worth the risk to drive all the way to Winsford from Smethwick in order to retrieve his friend’s property from a previous arrest.” Headquarters security staff identified Ahmed and reported him to officers, who promptly intervened regarding his actions.
