Sir Paul McCartney was joined by his former Beatles bandmate Sir Ringo Starr during a concert at London’s O2 Arena. The drummer was greeted with thunderous applause upon his arrival on stage before the duo performed the classic songs Helter Skelter and Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. “I’ve had a great night and I love you all,” Sir Ringo stated later as he exited the stage. Thursday’s performance marked the final event of Sir Paul’s Got Back tour, which saw the 82-year-old artist perform in France, Spain, and Brazil. Sir Ringo was not the sole musical guest that Thursday evening. Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood also joined Sir Paul for a rendition of Get Back, during which Sir Paul played his original Hofner 500/1 bass guitar for the first time in more than 50 years. The instrument, which was stolen in 1972, was recovered by Sir Paul earlier this year. Sir Paul and Sir Ringo, who are the last surviving members of The Beatles, have collaborated musically on multiple occasions since the band’s dissolution in 1970. These instances include Sir Ringo’s 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and Sir Paul’s previous tour, Freshen Up, in 2019. Sir Paul is renowned for delivering extensive performances filled with hits from his lengthy musical career, which encompasses his work with the band Wings and numerous solo albums. Thursday night maintained this tradition, as he played nearly 40 songs on various instruments. Additional notable moments from Thursday’s gig featured a performance of In Spite of All the Danger. This track was the first song recorded by The Quarrymen, the initial band Sir Paul was a member of, alongside the late John Lennon and George Harrison. Furthermore, a children’s choir accompanied him to sing his festive favourite Wonderful Christmastime.
