Stuart Maynard, who has served as Notts County’s head coach since January, has issued an apology to the club’s supporters following Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Salford, stating that the Magpies’ performance “wasn’t good enough”. This defeat marked their fourth in a five-game winless streak across all competitions, causing them to drop to 11th place in the league standings. “Our decision-making in all areas of the pitch all afternoon was poor,” Maynard informed BBC Radio Nottingham. He added, “As a collective it wasn’t a good enough. I apologise to the fans who have travelled and spent their hard-earned money to come and support us.” Salford secured an early advantage after a significant error by visiting goalkeeper Alex Bass led to Conor McAleny scoring the opening goal. Cole Stockton then netted two goals, one before and one after halftime, to complete Salford’s decisive victory. Maynard further commented, “They were better than us in every department – their quality was better, their decision-making was better.” He also recalled, “I said earlier in the season that we will go though a difficult patch and we are going through that sticky period at the minute.” Despite his critical assessment of the team’s performance, Maynard remains confident in Notts County’s capacity to recover. He emphasized that unity will be crucial as they strive to reverse their fortunes. “In tough times, you have to stick together,” Maynard stated. “It’s easy to point blame at people but we are all in it together.” He continued, “We have to stick together, go again and come back fighting – which I know this group will.” Maynard concluded, “I know what we have got in there, they are a group that cares and they are hurting.” Notts County is scheduled to return home to Meadow Lane for their next fixture on Saturday, where they will face a Bradford side with whom they are level on points after 19 games.
