Motorists are being advised to expect delays on roadways while a retaining wall, damaged by flooding, undergoes repairs. This wall, located in Gaitsgill Village, near Dalston in Cumbria, provides support for the U1142 highway, which runs parallel to a watercourse known as Pen Beck. The structure sustained damage earlier this year, and Cumberland Council has communicated that another significant flood event could present a “significant risk” to the road. The second week of these repair operations has now commenced, and traffic management measures have been established, set to remain in effect until Friday. The council stated, “Throughout the repairs, access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained, and residents will continue to have access to their properties.” The timeline for this work was determined following a discussion regarding the project at a community drop-in session held in November. The road was initially closed during the first phase of the repairs, which took place last week.
